Dr. Youwen Zhou provides esthetic dermatology consultations at BioPlus for aesthetic-related skin conditions. He is board-certified in dermatology in both Canada and the United States, and serves as Professor and Director of Research at the UBC Department of Dermatology and Skin Science.

An esthetic dermatology consultation with Dr. Zhou is a focused medical assessment of skin conditions that affect appearance. The consultation typically includes a full clinical exam of the area of concern, review of relevant medical and treatment history, dermatoscopic examination where appropriate, and a written treatment plan that integrates with the rest of the BioPlus medical team.
Patients consult Dr. Zhou either before starting an aesthetic treatment program (to ensure underlying skin health is addressed first) or following treatment for clinical review.

Dr. Zhou's Background
Dr. Zhou holds a PhD in molecular genetics and immunology in addition to his MD. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD), a dual board certification held by very few practitioners in the Vancouver area.
His laboratory played a leading role in the development of tapinarof, the first FDA-approved topical psoriasis drug in more than 40 years. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, and his work has been cited more than 7,800 times in scientific literature.
What to Expect
Consultations are typically 30 to 45 minutes. New patients receive a comprehensive intake form before the appointment. After the consultation, you receive a written summary and recommendation. Where ongoing aesthetic treatment is part of the plan, the recommendation is shared with the relevant member of the BioPlus medical team.
Practical Information
MSP coverage. Consultations with Dr. Zhou are not billed through MSP at this time. Fees are paid directly to the clinic.
