How it works

Thermage FLX is the fourth generation of Solta Medical's monopolar radiofrequency platform — one of the most extensively studied non-invasive skin tightening technologies in aesthetic medicine. The FLX system delivers radiofrequency energy deep into the skin to heat the dermal collagen layer, triggering both immediate collagen contraction and a longer-term remodelling response that continues for months after treatment.

The platform uses a patented Total Tip 4.0 applicator that delivers controlled RF energy across a treatment area 33% larger than previous Thermage generations. Each pulse is calibrated in real time by the AccuREP algorithm, which measures skin impedance and automatically adjusts energy output to maintain consistent, comfortable heating across every part of the treatment area. Integrated vibration and cryogen cooling are delivered simultaneously with each pulse, making the FLX session significantly more comfortable than earlier Thermage protocols.

Because Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency rather than light energy, it is safe across the full range of Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker skin tones. Treatment can be performed on the face, around the eyes, on the neck, and on body areas including the abdomen, arms, thighs, and above the knees. A standard face and neck session takes approximately 45 to 90 minutes, with no downtime — patients return to normal activities the same day.

Visible tightening often appears immediately after treatment as the collagen contracts, with continued improvement developing over the following two to six months as the deeper collagen remodelling completes. Results typically last 1 to 2 years, with most patients returning annually for a maintenance session. Every Thermage FLX session at BioPlus Richmond is performed by our medical team, supported by nearly 30 years of clinical experience in Vancouver.

Frequently asked questions

What does Thermage FLX treat?

Thermage FLX treats skin laxity, fine lines, and loss of contour on the face, around the eyes, and on the body. Common treatment areas include the lower face and jawline, eyelids and brow area, neck and décolletage, abdomen, arms, thighs, and above the knees.

How is Thermage FLX different from earlier Thermage devices?

Thermage FLX is the fourth-generation platform. The current system uses a Total Tip 4.0 applicator with a 33% larger treatment area, the AccuREP algorithm for real-time energy calibration based on your skin's impedance, and integrated vibration and cooling for significantly improved comfort over previous Thermage generations.

Is Thermage FLX safe for all skin tones?

Yes. Because Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency energy rather than light or laser energy, it is safe and effective across the full range of Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker skin tones where some laser-based tightening treatments carry higher risk.

What does a Thermage FLX treatment feel like?

Each pulse delivers a brief sensation of heat, immediately followed by integrated cooling and vibration. Most patients describe the experience as warm and tolerable rather than painful. The AccuREP system in the FLX generation has substantially improved comfort compared to older Thermage protocols.

How long is a Thermage FLX session?

A full face and neck session takes approximately 45 to 90 minutes depending on the treatment area. Eye-area-only treatments are shorter; body treatments may run longer depending on the surface area treated.

Is there downtime after Thermage FLX?

No. Thermage FLX is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. Most patients return to normal activities immediately, including makeup application and social events the same day. Mild redness or tenderness, if present, typically resolves within a few hours.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice an immediate tightening effect as the collagen contracts during treatment. The most significant improvements develop over the following two to six months as deeper collagen remodelling continues. Final results are typically visible at the four-to-six-month mark.

How long do Thermage FLX results last?

Results from a single Thermage FLX session typically last 1 to 2 years. Most patients return annually for a maintenance session to sustain the tightening and collagen-stimulating effects. Longevity varies with individual factors including age, lifestyle, sun exposure, and skin condition.
